About the project

North Macedonia Guidebook is an independent travel publisher’s guide to North Macedonia, written for people planning a trip from abroad. It has been published since June 2026 and now holds over 120 guides and routes: entry rules and trip planning, transport, attractions, cities, food, ready-made itineraries, car rental, insurance, and a section for those moving to the country.

Nothing here is written from memory, and nothing retells other people’s articles. Below is how topics are picked, how every number is checked, where the photos come from, and who makes the site.

How topics are chosen

Topics come from what travelers look up before a trip: visa and entry rules, the bus from the airport, whether Ohrid or Skopje deserves more days, what a week costs. Search demand decides what gets written next, not a random pick of places.

Where a guide is about a specific place, it goes in only if the place is rated well across several independent sources. A good score in one place while the others stay silent or negative isn’t a consensus for us. The rating itself is a filter, not content: to see current ratings and reviews, follow the link to the source or the map.

How every number is checked

Every price, timetable, distance and date in a guide is traced to the page of the operator that sets it: the airport, the bus or rail company, the ministry that issues the visa, the national bank for the exchange rate. The link to that page and the date of the check are kept in the sources of the article. Aggregators and booking sites don’t count: they copy a number, they don’t set it.

Before publication an automatic check reads those operator pages and fails the build if a number in the guide cannot be found on them. The domains that come up most often here are mvr.gov.mk and mfa.gov.mk for entry and residence rules, skp.airports.com.mk and ohd.airports.com.mk for the two airports, and nbrm.mk for the denar rate. Prices still drift between checks, so confirm anything you pay for on the operator’s side before you pay.

Photos and sources

Photos come from Wikimedia Commons under free licences. Every frame carries the author, the licence and a link to the original right under it, and a photo is not reused under different names across guides.

Other people’s ratings and review counts aren’t reprinted: that is platform data, and their rules forbid copying it. Sources are listed at the end of each guide, so you can open the same page we did and see the numbers for yourself.

How the guide is made

Research and first drafts are done with AI tools; an editor sets the brief, checks the result against the sources and publishes. Each guide shows the date it was last checked or updated, and guides are revisited by season, because places close and prices move. North Macedonia Guidebook is one of a family of twelve country guides run on the same editorial system, with the same checks in every one.

Some links on the site are affiliate links: car rental, accommodation, tours, insurance, connectivity. If you follow such a link and book something, we get a small commission from the service; the price for you stays the same, and the project is updated on these funds. Partnership doesn’t affect selection: if an option without an affiliate link is better or more honest, we recommend it.
